WEDDING GUEST SEASON

'Tis the season for summer weddings! I love a good excuse to look for a brand new dress. When I was younger, every time I told my dad I needed a new dress for an event he would respond "but you have a big closet full of clothes?". And to this day, I still go looking for a new dress for events *sorry Dad to disappoint you* I'm sure I will say the same thing to my kids one day.

This entire outfit was put together from Asos. That is my typical go-to online shop when I'm needing a wedding guest dress. Lots of good options for all styles (mini, midi, maxi) and a variety of price ranges. I also love this site because they offer Tall, Petite, Curve and even Maternity options.

Here's my tips and tricks for the perfect wedding guest attire:

1. Pay attention to the location. If the wedding is outside (like this one was) be sure to pick a dress you're going to be comfortable in all night. I went with a flared look because it's a more breathable style for myself.

2. Shoes shoes shoes. As much as you want to wear those 6-inch heels, consider how long you'll be on the dance floor. Open bar + dance floor + tall heels = a potential disaster!

3. Spanx are your friend, not your enemy. Shapewear is not just for thicker ladies, it enhances every woman's look if you ask me and just smoothes everything out. If you haven't already, invest in a pair.

4. Downsize your purse for the night. I love a good clutch, and I think they make the perfect accessory for a wedding. No one wants to lug around their big, daily purse to a wedding, especially when you're moving from the ceremony to the reception to the dance floor. Put your necessities in a clutch for the night (cards, ID, lipstick, etc)

SUNLIGHT SPECIAL

Hello Summer, it's nice to see you old friend! Not going to lie though, I don't thrive well in the Texas heat unless I'm poolside with a drink in hand.

I took a trip to the Dallas Arboretum recently (which I haven't visited since an elementary school field trip) and wow, you really appreciate the beauty of this place a lot more when you're older. I might have stood out a bit in my 5-inch wedges and oversized sunnies, walking next to my sister in her athletic-wear, pushing a stroller...but it's not my fault I'm the Kim Kardashian of the family. And that leads to my next point...I'm now an aunt! My new niece, Ellie Blayke is sure to be one of the most stylish kiddos very soon, which will all be thanks to her Auntie Lou Lou (still working on my cool aunt name).

I think that the time between Spring and Summer is very crucial in the fact that it is the last chance you have to rock jeans before the temperature sky rockets into triple digits. Lighter colors become the big trends again, especially white. And white is a great color to wear when you're outside because it masks the fact that you are dripping sweat. Summer also calls for keeping up with your pedicures. Keep those feet fresh ladies, your sandals will thank you.

Cheers to the start of a great summer ahead!
